Frenetic Sparks: Movement 1, “Right Now”

BY JOANNE C. MAFFIA

JOANNE C. MAFFIA is an interdisciplinary sound artist (percussionist/composer, writer/director) and music educator working within the fields of music, theatre, dance and radio. JoAnne’s work has been presented throughout the country and abroad. She recently received the Diversity Grant from SUNY Brockport to teach this 2017 fall semester and will be a featured artist at the upcoming Rochester, NY Fringe Festival this September 2017. She has also had a life-long connection to the dance world and continues that connection with her most recent collaboration with choreographer/dancer Mariah Maloney. This collaboration highlights JoAnne’s current interest and artistic shift into the world of field recording and acoustic ecology; using environmental sound as the base raw material as opposed to traditionally composed music.
